Size 46½" x 76" without Fringe

Materials Required — AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED, ARTICLE W11
29 - 1¼ oz. Skeins Dark Green.
7 - 1¼ oz. Skeins Light Green.
4 - 1¼ oz. Skeins Tan.
3 - 1¼ oz. Skeins Rust.
1 - 1¼ oz. Skein Maroon.
Bone or Plastic Hook No. 6 or No. 7.
Afghan Hook Size G.

With Dark Green, ch 67 and work 66 Afghan stitches on ch. (For Afghan stitch see directions on Fleur de Lis Afghan.) Work in Afghan sts for 239 rows, finish with a row of sl sts, break yarn. Work another stripe in same manner. Embroider design as illustrated according to chart repeating pattern from arrow 3 times ending design with 3 rows of bars and reversing pattern on second stripe.

Star Stitch Center Section. With right side of work towards you join Dark Green on side of Afghan stripe, ch 3, pick up the 2nd and 1st st of ch and the 1st and 2nd st on side of Afghan stripe having all loops on needle, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle at one time, ch 1, (the single loop on side of st formed by the ch 1 is termed the eye of the star st) * pick up the eye, side of star st just made leaving all loops on needle, insert needle in same space as last star st, pull loop through, insert needle in next st on side of Afghan stripe, pull through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, pick up the eye, side of star st just made and the next 2 sts on side of Afghan stripe, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * across row, (160 star sts) break yarn.

2nd Row. Attach yarn at beginning of row, ch 3, pick up 2nd and 1st st of ch, loop and eye of star st in previous row, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, * pick up the eye, side of star st just made, loop and eye of next star st of previous row, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * across row, break yarn. Repeat 2nd row for pattern working next 2 rows Lt. Green. Continue working in same manner working 2 rows Dk. Green, 2 rows Lt. Green until there are 4 Dk. Green and 4 Lt. Green stripes, then work 1 row of Dk. Green, break yarn. Work other Afghan stripe to correspond. Sew Star stripe pattern together having the Afghan stripes to outside.

Edge. With Dk. Green, work a row of s c all around working 3 s c in each corner. Across each short side, ch 3, * skip 1 s c, s d c next s c, (s d c yarn over needle, insert in stitch, pull through and work off all loops at one time) ch 1, repeat from * across row.

Fringe. Using a double strand of yarn, 1 s c in 1st mesh, draw up a loop on hook to 6 inch length, keep loop on hook, 1 s c in next mesh, * draw up a loop same length, 1 s c in next mesh, repeat from * across row always keeping one or two loops on needle to gauge length of next loop. Work other end in same manner.
