Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, Size 10, White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

Ch 109, skip 3 ch from hook, 1 s c in each of next 2 ch, * ch 5, skip 3, s c in each of next 2 ch. Repeat from * across, ending with 1 s c in last ch (21 loops). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: S c into 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in same loop, skip 2 s c of previous row, s c in next loop, and repeat from * across, ending with ch 5, 1 s c in same loop, s c in turning ch-3, ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 2 s c in 1st loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, repeat from * across, ending with ch-3, skip the last s c, s c in turning ch-3, ch 5, turn. 4th row: S c in 1st loop, * s c in next, ch 5, s c in same loop. Repeat from * across, ending with s c in next loop, ch 5, s c in 3rd ch of turning ch-5, ch 3 turn. 5th row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat from beginning of 2nd row until piece measures 14 inches, ending with 2nd row. Finish with 1 row of 2 s c in each loop, with ch-3 between. Work down the long side with 2 s c into 1st loop, * 1 s c between the 2 s c, 2 s c in the next 3 loops, and repeat from * across. Make 5 s c into corner loop, * 1 sc between the 2 s c, 3 s c in next loop, and repeat from * across. Work the other long and short sides in same manner, joining end with sl st to the 1st s c. Ch 3, d c in each s c, taking back loop of st only, and skipping 1 s c in the beginning and 1 s c in the end, in order to have 154 d c across. Work 2 d c in each of the 3 corner s c. Work across short end, making 10 increases along the way, in order to have 94 d c between the 6 d c at corner. Work the other two sides in same manner, and join with sl st. Scallop Row: Ch 3, d c into each of next 4 d c, * s c in next d c, ch 3, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2, skip d c, d c in next, ch 3, skip 2 d c, s c in next, 1 d c in each of next 6 d c, and repeat from * 9 times, ending with 5 d c instead of 6. Work corner with 2 d c in each of 6 d c below, then 5 d c, 1 s c, and repeat scallop around, joining with sl st at end of the first ch-3. When piece is complete, it measures 10 x 15 inches. Work another piece to correspond. The third piece is 6 x 15 inches. Ch 64 to start, and follow same directions, working until piece measures 14 inches. Finish as the other pieces, the only difference being the number of dc's on short sides (49 d c) between the corner groups of 6 d c. This attention to the number of d c is important, in order to make the scallops come out evenly.
