Diamond Potholder Pattern #9423

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball each of Cream and Turquoise … Steel Crochet Hook No. S ... 2 bone rings … These materials will make a set of 2 pot holders.

Use thread double throughout.

1st row: With Cream, make 7 sc in a bone ring. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip 1st sc, dc in next 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc, dc in next 3 sc. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter pick up only back loop of each st. 3rd row: Sc in each st across, making 3 sc in center st of 5-dc group and ending with sc in top st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Skip 1st sc, dc in each sc across making 5 dc in center sc of 3-sc group. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows alternately until piece measures 9 inches diagonally, ending with the 3rd row. With single strand of Turquoise, work rows of sc along free loops of each sc row, having wrong side of sc's face bone ring.
     Make another pot holder same as this, reversing colors and using Turquoise double and only a single strand of Cream for ridges.

PADDING … Cut flannel or cotton batting slightly smaller, and lining material slightly larger, than crocheted piece. Place padding between crocheted piece and lining. Turn under edges of lining and sew to edges of crocheted piece with neat over-and-over stitches. For pot holders consisting of 2 crocheted pieces, insert padding between crochet and sew up edges.
