Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, Size 30, 4 balls of main color (referred to as color A) and 2 balls of contrasting color (referred to as color B). If a high lustre is preferred, J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton Size 8 can be used. 5 balls of main color and 2 balls of contrasting color are needed. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.
Palm. Begin with Color A, ch 86 (to measure about 8¼ inches) and join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: * Ch 4, skip 2 sts of foundation ch, 1 s c in next st, and repeat from * around (27 loops in all). 2nd to 15th rnds incl: * Ch 4, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * around. 16th rnd: Ch 12, skip 7 loops (for thumb opening), 1 s c in 8th loop, * ch 4, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * around. 17th rnd: Over ch-12 of previous rnd, * skip 2 ch, 1 s c in next ch, ch 4, and repeat from * until 4 s c with ch-4 between are made over the ch-12. Then ** ch 4, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from ** around. 18th to 29th rnds incl: Same as 2nd rnd.
Fingers. Forefinger should be directly above thumb opening. Work across 4 loops from outside edge of finger, ch 5, cross over to back of glove and make 1 s c in 4th loop from outside edge, then * ch 4, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * until there are about 16 rnds. Try on, and if too short, continue working till length desired. It is better not to have the fingers too long. Draw top together and finish off. Middle Finger. Attach thread to bottom of forefinger at palm side of glove and work across 3 loops, ch 5, cross over to back of glove and make 1 s c in 3rd loop from forefinger. Work across these 3 loops, then over loop between fingers and continue around until there are about 18 rnds. Finish off as before. Ring Finger. Attach thread to bottom of middle finger at palm side, and work as for middle finger until there are about 15 rnds. Finish off as before. Little Finger. Attach thread and work around until there are about 13 rnds. Finish off as before. Thumb. Attach thread and work around thumb opening until there are about 14 rnds (11 loops in a rnd). Finish off.
Cuff. Use thread double for entire cuff. 1st rnd: Attach color B, at wrist part of glove, and make 2 s c in each sp on the foundation ch (58 s c in rnd). 2nd to 5th rnds incl: 1 s c in each s c of previous rnd, working around. Then break off. 6th rnd: Attach color A. * Ch 3, skip 1 s c of previous rnd, 1 s c in next s c, and repeat from * around cuff (29 ch-3 loops in rnd). 7th to 10th rnds incl: * Ch 3, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * around. Break off. 11th rnd: Attach color B, * 2 s c in next loop, 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next loop, skip next s c, and repeat from * around (59 s c in rnd). 12th to 15th rnds incl: 1 s c in each s c of previous rnd, increasing enough s c to have 79 s c in 15th rnd. 16th rnd: Attach color A and work as for 6th rnd, making 39 ch-3 loops in rnd. 17th to 21st rnds incl: Same as 7th rnd. Break off. 22nd rnd: Attach color B and work as for 11th rnd (95 s c in rnd). 23rd to 27th rnds incl: Same as 12th rnd, but do not break off. 28th row: Ch 4 (to count as 1 d c and ch 1), skip 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, and repeat from * until there are 6 sps (6 d c), turn. 29th row: 1 s c over last ch-1, ch 4 (to count as 1 d c and ch-1) * skip next d c of previous row, 1 d c over next ch-1, ch 1, and repeat from * until there are 5 sps (5 d c). Turn. 30th to 33rd rows incl: Same as 29th row, only decrease 1 sp on each row, thus having 1 sp left on 33rd row. Break off. This completes one point. Make 6 more points same as one just finished by repeating 28th to 33rd rows incl, but leaving 1 s c between two points. 34th row: Attach color A to top of last d c of 1st row of any point (28th row), make 1 s c in last sp, then 1 d c in same sp as last d c of point, 1 d c in next s c, then 1 d c in next s c (which is the same place as the 1st d c of the next point). Sl st into top of this row of the 2nd point, then make 1 s c into 1st sp, ch 3, and sl st to top of next row. 35th to 39th rows incl: * Turn, make 1 d c in 1st sp of previous row, 1 d c in each d c of color A, 1 d c in last sp of previous row of 1st point, sl st to top of same row of 1st point, make 1 s c in sp of same row, then ch 3 and sl st to top of next row. Repeat from *, thus filling in the spaces between the points. When color A is even with the top of the points (row 33), break off and fill in the next 6 sps. Do not break off when the last space is filled. 40th rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in each st to end of rnd. Join with sl st. 41st rnd: * 1 s c in each of next 4 d c, ch 3 (for a p), and repeat from * to end of rnd. Break off. Follow same directions for making other glove, but reverse the position of the fingers.
