Materials Required—AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS, ARTICLE W16
5—1 oz. Balls White or any Color desired will make a set.
Hood: 3—1 oz. Balls.
Mitts: 2—1 oz. Balls.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 2 or No. 3.
1 yd. of 1 inch Ribbon.
Hood. Ch 83, insert needle in 3rd st from hook, pull loop through, yarn over, skip 1 st of ch, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on needle, ch 1, * insert needle in same space with last st, pull loop through, yarn over, skip 1 st of ch, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * to end of row (ch 2 to turn each row).
2nd Row. Start pattern, insert needle in space with ch 2, draw loop through, yarn over, insert needle under 2 loops of st, draw loop through, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on needle, ch 1, * insert needle in same space with last st, draw loop through, yarn over, skip the ch 1, insert needle under 2 loops of st, draw loop through, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * across row. Continue working in pattern until work measures about 11½ inches, break yarn. Fold work lengthwise, thread a needle with length of yarn and starting at the first and last st of first row, sew short side together to form hood.
Attach yarn at end st of last row and work 1 row of s c all around front of hood, working 1 s c in each row.
2nd Row. Start double knot st (Double knot stitch) draw up ½ inch loop on needle, yarn over and pull through ch, s c in single loop of st, draw up another ½ inch loop, s c in loop, s c in next s c, repeat double knot sts all around front of hood, continue in double knot sts around lower edge of hood, working a knot st in each pattern.
3rd Row. Work a ¾ inch knot st to turn. Working across lower edge of hood only, s c in center s c of last double knot st made, * work another double knot st, s c in center s c of next double knot st, work another double knot st, s c in same st with last s c, thus increasing one double knot st, repeat from * across row, turn and work 3 more rows even, then work 1 row of double knot sts all around hood, break yarn.
Mitts. Ch 35—about 6¾ inches, join being careful not to twist chain, ch 2, insert needle in same st with joining, pull loop through, yarn over, skip 1 st of ch, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on needle, ch 1, * insert needle in same space with last st, pull loop through, yarn over, skip 1 st of ch, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * 15 times, join in the ch 2.
2nd Round. Ch 2, turn. Work in pattern same as hood, join each round and ch 2 to turn each round. Work 6 more rounds of pattern even (about 2 inches).
9th Round. Work 8 patterns, increase by working another full pattern in the same space with last st, then work 1 pattern even, increase 1 pattern in the same manner as last increase, continue even around remainder of mitt.
10th Round. Work even in pattern (19 patterns).
11th Round. Work 10 patterns even, increase by working 1 pattern in same space with last st, continue even all around.
12th Round. Work even in pattern (20 patterns).
13th Round. Work 11 patterns, increase 1 pattern, continue even all around.
14th and 15th Rounds. Work even in pattern.
16th Round. Work 8 patterns even, ch 5, skip 4 patterns for thumb, insert needle under the 2 loops of 5th pattern, pull loop through, yarn over, insert needle under the 2 loops of next pattern and complete pattern, continue all around working 2 patterns over the ch 5, (18 patterns). Work 16 more rounds over the 18 patterns for hand. Work should measure about 4½ inches from thumb opening.
Next Round. Work in pattern omitting the ch 1 after each pattern.
Next Round. Work in pattern skipping 1 st between 1st and 2nd st of each pattern and omitting chs (9 patterns), break yarn, leaving a length to thread needle and draw ends together.
Thumb. Attach yarn in 1st st of ch 5 and work 9 patterns around thumb opening having 2 patterns over the ch 5, join, ch 2 to turn each round. Work 1 more round over the 9 patterns.
3rd Round. Work 8 patterns, then slip needle in next pattern, pull yarn through and join to the ch 2. Work 7 more rounds over the 8 patterns.
Next Round. Start decreasing, insert needle in st, pull loop through, insert needle in next pattern, pull loop through, insert needle in next pattern, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, continue in same manner all around, break yarn leaving a length to thread needle and draw end together.
Cuff. Attach yarn at top of mitt and work 5 or 6 rounds as desired of double knot sts, 1 double knot st in each st (see Hood for directions), break yarn.
