MATERIAL:
2 (2-3) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle (4 oz. skein)
1 crochet hook No. 9 or I
PATTERN:
1st row: 1 d.c. in 3rd st. from hook, * ch. 2, skip 2, 1 d.c. in next st. repeat from * across row end 1 d.c. in last st., ch. 3, turn.
2nd row: * 2 d.c. in ch. 2 space, ch. 1 repeat from * across row end 2 d.c. in last space, ch. 3, turn.
3rd row: * 1 d.c. in ch. 1 space, ch. 2 repeat from * across row end 1 d.c. in last space, ch. 3, turn.
Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately for pattern.
BACK AND BOTH FRONTS:
With No. 9 crochet hook make a ch. 36 (38-40) inch. or any des. length to fit all around (approx. 141 (150-171) sts). There should be 46 (49-56) patterns. Work in pattern for 13 (14-15) inch. or any des. length to underarm ending with Row 2. Break yarn. Divide for Back and Fronts: Count 10 (11-13) patterns for 1st front, leave 4 patterns (all sizes) free for underarm, attach yarn, work in pattern over next 18 (19-22) patterns for back only until armhole measures 8 (8½-9) inch. to shoulder. Fasten off.
RIGHT FRONT:
Attach yarn at right front and work 10 (11-13) patterns, leaving the 4 patterns free for underarm. Decr. 1 pattern at center edge for V neck every other row until piece is 1¾ (2¼-2½) inch. wide. Work as high as back and fasten off.
LEFT FRONT:
Leaving 4 patterns free for underarm, attach yarn and work in pattern as Right Front reversing V neck shaping.
FINISHING:
Sew up shoulder seams. With No. 9 crochet hook work 1 row s.c. around the entire vest and around each armhole. Tie: With No. 9 crochet hook and double yarn, attach yarn at front of V neck shaping and make a ch. 10 inch. long on each front. Block to size.
