This holder may be made with any of the American Thread Company products listed below:

FRONT: With Green ch 2, 6 s c in 2nd st from hook, do not join this or the following 3 rows, place a marker at beginning of each of the next 3 rows.

2nd Row. 2 s c in each s c.

3rd Row. Working in s c, increase in every other st.

4th Row. Increase in every 3rd st.

5th Row. Increase in every 4th s c (30 s c) ch 1, turn.

6th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 6 sts, ch 1, turn.

7th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, break Green, attach White (when changing Color always complete last half of st with next Color) and work 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, ch 1, turn.

8th Row. 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in next s c, drop White (always drop Colors to wrong side of work), attach Red and work 2 s c in each of the next 2 s c, ch 1, turn.

9th Row. 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, drop Red, pick up White and work 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, ch 1, turn.

10th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, with Red 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, ch 3, turn (counts as 1 d c in each row).

11th Row. 2 d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 3 sts, with White 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, ch 1, turn.

12th Row. 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, with Red 1 s c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 6 sts, ch 3, turn.

13th Row. 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, with White 1 s c in each of the next 9 sts, 2 s c in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, turn. 14th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 14 s c, with Red 1 d c in each of the next 4 sts, 2 d c in each of the next 3 sts, ch 3, turn.

15th Row. 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 3 sts, with White 1 s c in each of the next 17 sts, ch 1, turn.

16th Row. 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 18 s c, with Red 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 2 s c in next st, 1 s c in next st, ch 1, turn.

17th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 4 sts, with White 1 s c in each of the next 22 sts, ch 1, turn.

18th Row. 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 23 s c, with Red 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, ch 1, turn. 19th Row. S c in next s c, break Red, with White 1 s c in each remaining s c, ch 1, turn.

20th Row. 1 s c in each s c decreasing 1 s c at end of row (to decrease: * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time), ch 3, turn.

21st Row. 1 d c in each of the next 5 sts, 1 s c in each remaining st, ch 1 to turn each of the following rows.

Next 9 Rows. Work even in s c.

31st Row. Repeat 20th row.

Next 4 Rows. Decrease 1 s c at beginning and end of each row.

36th Row. Decrease 2 s c at end of row.

37th Row. Increase 1 s c at end of row.

38th Row. Increase 1 s c at beginning of row and decrease 1 s c at end of row.

39th Row. Decrease 2 s c at beginning of row and increase 1 s c at end of row.

40th Row. Increase 1 s c at beginning of row, decrease 2 s c at end of row.

41st Row. Repeat 39th row.

42nd Row. 1 sl st in each s c, break yarn.

BEAK: With Yellow ch 16, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Increase 1 s c at beginning and end of row, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. Decrease 1 s c at end of row, ch 1, turn.

4th Row. Decrease 1 s c at beginning of row, ch 1, turn.

5th Row. Repeat 3rd row.

6th Row. 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 10 s c, ch 4, turn.

7th Row. 2 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, 1 s c in each remaining s c increasing 1 s c at end of row.

8th Row. Repeat 2nd row, break thread.

Work another section in same manner.

BACK SECTION: Work 1st 17 rows of front section.

18th Row. 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, ch 9, skip 9 s c (thumb opening), 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, with Red 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, ch 1, turn.

19th Row. S c in next s c, break Red, with White 1 s c in each s c and 1 s c in each st of ch, ch 1, turn and complete back same as front section.

THUMB: With White follow directions given for thumb on pattern page.

FOOT: With Yellow ch 10, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in next st of ch, ch 3, s c in 2nd st from hook, 2 s c in next st of ch, 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Sl st in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 4 s c, sl st in each of the next 3 sts, break thread. Work another section in same manner. Sew sections together and sew to duck as illustrated. Sew beak in position on front and back sections. With Black "STAR" Six Strand Embroidery Cotton using 12 strands, embroider eye and lines as illustrated. Sew back and front sections together leaving 14 rows of breast free for opening.

With White cover a bone ring with s c and attach to back of holder about 1 inch down from top.
