ROYAL SOCIETY RUG COTTON,
1 ball each of Red and White.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 8.
Approximately 7½ x 8½ inches.

With Red, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 12 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Ch 1, turn and work in rows as follows: 1st row: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (18 sts). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across (24 sts). Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: * Sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across (30 sts). Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Dc in next sc, * 2 dc in next sc, dc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 5th to 8th rows incl: Sl st in 1st dc, sc in each dc across, increasing as necessary to keep work flat. Ch 1, turn. 9th row: Sl st in 8 sc; increasing as before, work sc in each sc to last 8 sc. Do not work in last 8 sts. Ch 1, turn. 10th to 13th rows incl: Sl st in 1st sc, sc in each sc, increasing as before. Ch 1, turn. 14th row: Sl st in 3 sc; increasing as before, work sc in each sc to last 8 sc. Ch 1, turn. 15th, 16th and 17th rows: Same as 10th row. Break off. Attach White in end of 4th (dc) row, * ch 1, skip 1 dc, sl st in top of next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, sl st in bottom of next dc. Repeat from * across dc row. Then work sl st in each st and end of each row around piece. Break off.
   For handle, ch 17. Work sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Sew to back of pot holder.
