GLASS MUFFS—put your glasses in them —like your hand in a muff, to absorb moisture from perspiring chilled glasses and stop dripping and rings on the cloth or bridge table. Varied uses will demand color combinations to suit the occasion.
A set of these muffs with the glasses to fit will make a lovely gift for shower or other occasions,—try them for church bazaars.
MATERIALS:
The directions are for a set of four muffs—one, called "Porcelain Pastels," needs a ball each of tearose, ivory, medium blue and medium green. The other combination, called "Fiesta," with bright colored "Posys" on a white base will need a ball each of white, red, medium blue, medium green and yellow. A ball each of these colors will make several sets of muffs to fit lemonade, iced tea, or highball glasses approx. 2¼" in diameter. Steel crochet hook No. 2.
Base: In "Porcelain Pastels," make one of each color. In "Fiesta," make four white.
Ch 8, sl st in first st to form a ring. Ch 1, 11 sc in ring, sl st in l-ch.

Row 3: Ch 1 for a sc, 1 sc in same ch with sl st, (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeated around (36 sc). Sl st to first l-ch.
Row 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in same ch with sl st (1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around (48 sc). Sl st in first l-ch. (If smaller or larger glasses are to be used—make to fit base of glass.)
Sides: Ch 1, 1 sc in back loop of each sc (47 sc). Sl st in first l-ch, (ch 2, 1 sc in next third sc st) 15 times (ch 2, 1 sc in next 2 ch loop) repeated around until 6 rows in all are completed. * 1 sc in next 2 ch loop, ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 ch, ch 4, 1 dc in same space, ch 2, 1 sc in next 2 ch loop. Repeated from * 4 times. Fasten off.
Flowers: Pastels—make five of each, of the four colors, for set of four glass muffs. "Fiesta":—Make four of each color and four of white. (Ch 4, 3 dc in first st of 4-ch, ch 3, sl st in same st) 4 times, sl st at base of first petal (starting st).
Cut thread 6" from work, pull through loop, tightly, thread to a large sewing needle and fasten securely on back of first petal.
Arrangement on Muffs: Sort out the colored posy's and muffs as follows:
1st Muff—Ivory Base—2 Green—1 ea. of 3 other colors.
2nd Muff—Green Base—2 Ivory—1 ea. of 3 other colors.
3rd Muff—Peach Base—2 Blue—1 ea. of 3 other colors.
4th Muff—Blue Base—2 Peach—1 ea. of 3 other colors.
On the white bases for "Fiesta" Muffs, arrange the colored posy's in the same way—1 of each color and 1 of white.
Arrange the five posy's as desired, to fit around the top of each muff. Tack five together into a straight row. Use fairly strong sewing thread, and work from the back with neat over and over stitches, going through the second dc of a petal on each side of flower.
Before Joining end of row to form circle, lay on padded board and steam with a wet cloth and hot iron—then press through a dry cloth until perfectly dry.
Tack ends, to form a ring and with both wrong-side out, sew a petal of each flower between scallops on top of muff. Tack the scallops up to joined petals of flowers.
